About Me

Eliyahu Mizrahi

Hi, I'm Eliyahu

I'm a junior computer science student at Brooklyn College. Most of my time goes into building full-stack apps and AI/ML systems, competing in cybersecurity CTFs, and doing research. Right now I'm an undergraduate researcher at the CUNY MASS Lab working on internet censorship detection, and I spent this past summer interning at the U.S. Marshals Service.

My main project is XPStrength, a gamified fitness app I've been building since freshman year that's now live on the iOS App Store. I'm running an IRB-approved study on it to see if gamification actually improves workout adherence. On the side, I do hackathons for the fun and the challenge of shipping a full-stack app under a strict time constraint.

Undergraduate Researcher

CUNY MASS Lab, Brooklyn College

  • Sole student researcher, advised by Prof. Hui Chen, reimplementing CenDTect (NDSS 2024) — an unsupervised method that trains per-domain decision trees over Censored Planet data and clusters them with DBSCAN to detect internet censorship events.
  • Investigating how Censored Planet and OONI diverge in what censorship they detect.
  • Responsible for correctness and validation of the detection pipeline, including ground-truth auditing against raw measurement data and algorithm fixes to match the paper's formulation.
  • Built evaluation infrastructure for scoring detection results against OONI labels (Python, scikit-learn, pandas, pytest).

Intern

U.S. Marshals Service, Eastern District of New York

  • Gathered usability feedback from Deputy U.S. Marshals on Capture, the USMS enterprise case management platform replacing the legacy JDIS system.
  • Filed defect reports and proposed interface changes that were adopted in later platform updates.
  • Entered and organized sensitive law enforcement records in Excel under agency data-handling policy.

  • Features an XP-based progression system, real-time workout tracking, competitive leagues, a social friend feed, weekly leaderboards, and a visual muscle-recovery heatmap.
  • Running an IRB-approved human subjects study evaluating the effectiveness of gamification on workout adherence and outcomes in active users.
  • Continuously iterating on features, analytics, and UX based on live user feedback.
